Weekend

(This is Sadie. She keeps me company while I'm working on jewelry.)

This past weekend was a weird hodge-podge of things to do. I went to a friend's art opening at Krowswork Gallery in Oakland, went to an open house on Saturday (I'm moving soon!), worked at the coffee shop (I almost always work weekends), spent some quality time with Jeff and the kids, worked on and completed a special necklace order for a customer, and actually had some time to just kick back and relax.

(flowers all from Jeff's and my backyard)

My outfits for days like these have to be very versatile. They have to be comfortable enough for me to ride my bike in (I don't own a car), but I still want to feel like I'm wearing something that is appropriately "me". (You won't catch me donning spandex and such.)

This is what I wore on Saturday. Saturday had me all over town, all by bike.

Outfit details (and, of course, this is also posted to Wardrobe Remix.

We finished the whole weekend off with a BBQ on Sunday night (just Jeff, the kids, and me). While my weekend was busy, it was balanced-busy, which is pretty much good-busy in my book.

Selling Posters

On Wednesday night my boyfriend and I went to see Camera Obscura at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco. We had a dual reason for being there: one, we both love their music, and two, Jeff had designed a poster specifically for this show.

Jeff designs the posters himself and then hand-screenprints them in his kitchen. It's a very involved process. But it's so satisfying to see the thick stack of finished posters at the end of two or three days of hard work! Jeff posts pictures of his work in progress and up-coming shows that he's designing posters for at his blog, Crumble Diamonds.

The show was a lot of fun. Jeff sold out of the posters (yes!) and we had many an interesting conversationg with fellow concert-goers. The crowd was a very eclectic one, all I knew when I got dressed for the show was I wanted to wear a dress! This particular one had been sitting in my "alter-repair-hem" pile for a good two years! And all because it simply needed a couple of buttons sewn on. It's a dress I salvaged from the Goodwill, back when I lived in Livermore.

Calistoga get-away

As promised, I have many photos to share from Jeff's and my trip to Calistoga last week. We stayed at Indian Springs, a resort-spa, for four days and three nights. It was delightful and just what I needed!

We spent a lot of time poolside, lazing about, reading, eating delicious lunches with the random smattering of tasty goodies we picked up from the local grocery store.

My reads

Oh, and of course we spent a lot of time in the pool! Naturally occurring geysers keep the mineral pool heated to 102 degrees.

We also traipsed around town, trying out different restaurants (when we weren't barbecuing) and slurping up delicious smoothies at the Calistoga Roastery.

On our last night there, we went out for an amazing dinner at the Martini House in St. Helena. But we had time to kill so we stopped and had some snacks and beer at the Silverado Brewery. They had a pretty tasty ESB.

On the way back we took our time, stopped at a winery, had lunch at another winery, and enjoyed the lovely back roads of the Napa valley area.

I'm still feeling refreshed from the getaway. And I'm looking into The National Holistic Institute for affordable massage options for a semi-regular basis. Trying to maintain that balance I'm always striving for.

Birthday Festivities

I am a very lucky woman. Having just returned from four days and three nights at a resort-spa in Calistoga, I feel quite relaxed and refreshed. I'm excited to get back to work, but also want to strive to maintain more of a life balance than I had before. Including frequent massages! The trip was my BIG birthday gift from Jeff. Pictures from the trip will be going up in the next few days, both here and on my Flickr page.

Besides the ridiculously indulgent gift from Jeff, I also received these gorgeous flowers from the coffee shop I work at:

And! The night before my birthday Jeff and I and some friends saw the Bonnie "Prince" Billy show at the New Parish in Oakland. I wore a decidedly "Jeannine" outfit: patterns, and florals, and textures galore. The show was lovely and intimate. They played acoustic and sans a P.A. system. The whole crowd was hushed and attentive.

The day of my birthday (April 11th), Jeff and I took the kids to the city to see the Cartier Exhibit at the Legion of Honor. It was truly amazing. And they even extended the exhibit through May 8th (or is it 9th?) so I may go back again.

We finsihed the day off with cake, baked by Sera. Chocolate cake with chocolate icing. It doesn't get much better than that!

whew!

So yes, in short, I'm kind of spoiled. And I still have one more birthday bash to celebrate with my sister!

Well, it's about that time. Time for a much-needed, relaxing vacation. So it's off to Calistoga for mud baths, massages, sleeping in, time with my boyfriend, and just overall a lot of R&R!

There will be no Wednesday Item of the Week today. But check back next week for a new installment!

Corners

I'll be moving soon, sometime in the next few months. I've been feeling the urge to document the bits and pieces of my place that make me smile. All of the corners of clutter, the colors, the odd arrangements, the paraphanelia that have come to life over the last 2 and 1/2 years in my South Berkeley home. I think I'm going to do a similiar sort of chronicling of my boyfriend's place, because while it hasn't been arranged and decorated by me it does have it's corners of wonder too.

That's it for now! More next week.
