One weekend full of roses

A couple of weekends ago Jeff and I had a lovely day out and about in Berkeley and Oakland. The weather was gorgeous! First we had lunch at the Rose Garden in Berkeley. Afterwards we checked out some of the open artist studios throughout the east bay.

Blissful and Busy

Blissful and busy. . . these kinds of days call for a certain kind of outfit. Clothes that are easy to move in but still flattering. And especially this time of the year, I want to wear pretty prints and soft fabrics.

Blissfully busy

Right now I'm really drawn to this silhouette of a fitted blouse, tank top, or tee paired with a flowy, drapey skirt. Flats or sandals being the most appropriate shoes of course!

Hair detail. The butterfly is actually an old broach. I took the sharp stick part off and attached it to a bobby pin.

The most comfortable shoes in the world.

For today's Thursday feature I bring you another jewelry artist working in fiber and thread and fabric, Spinthread.

ginkgos earrings $35.00

peacock fan necklace $55.00

Lorena designs and makes these funky and fun necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and accessories. Quoted from her featured seller interview:
"Long story short; I draw, then draw again on the embroidery fabric, embroider, cut out, apply lace, sew it all together, attach hardware and finally, ship! Sometimes I wish it was as easy and fast as it sounds. But the results are incredibly worth the long process, and as one of my returning customers put it—-you gotta wait for the good things."

pastels bracelet$40.00

Her jewelry adds a lovely pop of color and attitude to the simplest of outfits, or pairs nicely with vintage dresses and tops. There are so many ways to wear her designs!

It's a charming post that's a mix of details about a wedding dress she designed and made, pictures of the interior of a lovely home, and pictures of these darling little cabins and cottages that make you feel like you've wandered into a fairytale!

Fairs and Sunshine

There sure was a lot of both of these all weekend for me! On Saturday my boyfriend and his son and I went to the Berkeley World Music Festival. We had a great time, even the semi-reluctant 10 year-old who was convinced he would not have a good time. He made pretty good friends with the gentleman selling chainmail armor, jewelry and hand-crafted "weapons" made out of foam and pvc pipe. He went home with one new "axe." I'll have some pictures from that fair tomorrow!

Yesterday was the Temescal Street Fair. It was a big hit! I think the one BIG thing I would have done differently was water supply! I would have packed a DOZEN water bottles. While it wasn't that hot yesterday it was hot enough to warrant constant water consumption.

I thought I'd share some of the photos from my booth. I wish I had taken some photos of neighboring booths. Something to remember for next time!

Thanks to all who dropped by to say hi! It was a great day, full of great music and friends. I also met some new lovely folk as well. If you missed this one, you can catch me at the next Renegade Craft Fair in San Francisco on July 31st and August 1st.

Long Weekend

A long weekend it was, for most people at least! I worked most of the weekend at the coffee shop, but I did manage to fit in some time for fun and good food and time with the people I love.

My boyfriend and I almost always go to Jupiter, in Berkeley on Sunday nights. Not only do they have great beer and pizza, but they also have free, live bluegrass music. I looooove bluegrass music. It might sound a bit cheesy, but for me, hearing bluegrass feels a little like finding home.

Jewelry work was a bit neglected the last few days, I must say. I'm looking forward to a good, solid four days of dedicated work time. I'm still getting ready for the Temescal Street Fair too. Hope to see those of you who are local there!
