Weekly Adventures

Or, a new series better known as "my life as portrayed on Instagram". . .

kitchen corners: a God's eye made by my friend Molly. She's got a whole collection of these that she's made and they're all super rad.

Oakland's First Friday, aka Art Mumur. I set up a booth outside with Jeff. He sold his posters. I sold my baubles. Pretty good deal =)

Some weekend essentials. I headed out to Patterson to see my family on Saturday. It reached 109 out there! Woweee!

Coffee to start my day in one of my all time favorite mugs.

Arlo, the wonderful cat that he is. He always know when I need to relax. As in, "don't worry about this laundry, mom. It's making a great bed!"

Sera (Jeff's daughter) had a photo exhibit with her photo class at Berkeley High last week. Her series was of snapshots from many different college campuses on the east cost. She visited a bunch of campuses a few weeks ago with her mom ('cause she'll be applying to colleges this November!)

There's lots going on here at the Tangleweeds studio too! Just to entice you, I'll be posting here about a sale in my Etsy shop later this week. . .

Oh, it's fun to tease =)

New Work of Late

Oh, Sunday, how I love you. I hope everyone out there is having a great Sunday. I had the pleasure of having brunch with a good friend today at The Fat Lady. The rest of my day has been unfurling at a pleasant pace. And I thought it was a good moment to share some snaps (mostly via Instagram - my handle is "Tangleweeds") of some of my recent work. None of these are available on Etsy just yet. But you can always catch me at a fair!

I think of this one as a very powerful piece. Obviously not completed yet, but well on the way.

"Chance" earrings. These are available with many different stone options.

Full circle lariat with triangles.

Something itty-bitty and delicate and perfect by itself or worn layered.

A trio of rhombus earrings.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Moving my Studio

I just want to share here that this week I am in the process of moving my workspace to The Hive in Oakland (Jack London Square area.) I am beyond excited! I can't wait to get back to sharing more of what's going on with me here. Life, as I suggested a few posts back, has thrown me a few curve balls as of late, and some things just had to give. Unfortunately, blogging was one of those things (temporarily).
the old space, all packed up

the new space, just moved into and starting to settle in. there's much to be done still!

cute workspace corner =)

And, just to keep you posted, I'll be at this lovely event this Sunday. Indie Mart was, unfortunately, post-poned, so if you're in the market for some Tangleweeds jewelry, you'll wanna come by Jack Kerouac Alley in San Francisco instead!

Have a lovely Thursday evening everyone!

Pretty Penny

Pretty Penny is this adorable vintage shop on College Avenue in the Rockridge neighborhood of Oakland. I've been selling my jewelry there for just over a year. The ladies who work there are lovely and friendly and they will hep you find the perfect dress, necklace, pair of sunglasses, you name it, they'll be your personal stylist! I dropped off a great selection of classic Tangleweeds pieces, like my medium sized hoops pictured below, with a few new styles mixed in. If you have a chance to stop in, say hi to Ellen, the carroty-red haired lady with the impeccable style, and tell her I sent you! She's the woman I work with to have my jewelry in the shop. Thanks, Ellen!

Occupy Mindfully

Oakland. You are beautiful. I went down to 14th and Broadway today and saw the encampments for the first time. I listened to Angela Davis give a moving speech. I walked around and saw so much sharing and giving and compassion. I was moved to tears. A random lady said I looked beautiful today as she bustled about with supplies for the occupiers. I am humbled and awed by the dedication of these people. Our world has come to a place where and when we need this: we need to find ways back to a more egalitarian society.

After leaving this sacred space I went on my way to my Berkeley jewelry studio. Back to my work. I will work today. I will work for myself as I have done for the last seven years of my life. I am infinitely proud of what I do, but at times the amount of strain and stress, the discouragement from a society that doesn't "get it" can become almost too much.

So, Oakland, this is what I say to you: You have re-charged this working artist's batteries. You have reminded me of why I do what I do. I make decisions everyday to stay committed to a way of life that hasn't been spoon-fed to me: supporting local and businesses who operate with integrity, biking and walking places as much as I can, sharing what wealth I do have to offer with the people around me. But I will stop there. I do not want to turn this into a laundry list of all of the things I do to make this a better planet. Because I could be doing so much more. Oakland, you've given me the extra "oomph" to keep striving in this direction.

Thank you thank you thank you.

Snippets

Some snippets from the two fairs I did this past Friday and Saturday.

I was ecstatic when I found this vintage typesetter's drawer at the antique shop in my neighborhood. I knew it would be perfect for my jewelry displays.

Open Studio! This photo was snapped Friday night as we worked on getting everything set up and ready to go for our EBAC craft fair.

Both were lots of fun! Now it's time to get back to work on my Etsy shop. . .
